About this event
Join us on day, January 16, 2023 from 11am – 3pm at the New Joy Missionary Baptist Church to pack care packages for women impacted by incarceration. Since 2018, we’ve celebrated Martin Luther King Day as a day of service to, for and in honor of Black women.
The purpose of Serve Our Sisters is to move our community to take action on behalf of Black women to build organizing squads that embrace the power of issue-led campaigns and community service. Serve Our Sisters is a celebration of the continuous civic engagement of Black women and a call to action.
Celebrate a day of action by attending Color Of Change’s annual Serve Our Sisters event with your family and friends. You will experience the joy of bonding that is rooted in our most trusted circles while engaging in guided discussions that affirm our worldview. We’ll have good food, a solid DJ and conversations about what it means to be there for our community.
Inflation, the coronavirus and inadequate healthcare have added to the systemic racism that has created economic disparities in our communities for years. We will center the concerns of the Black family when discussing our ability to adequately meet the needs of those impacted by incarceration. Most importantly, as we consider the newly elected decisionmakers in our community, we’ll think critically about what it means to hold them accountable to addressing our issues and reducing incarceration rates in our community.
Serve Our Sisters is an ongoing commitment to center Black women, uplift our stories and celebrate our unique value in order to move our communities forward. All care packages prepared will be donated to Coco Life.
