Client:

The Philadelphia Council AFL-CIO is comprised of over 100 local labor unions representing over 150,000 working people in the public sector, private industry, and the building and construction trades.  The mission of the Council is to bring social and economic justice to working people by giving them a voice on the job, in politics, and in the community.

Challenge:

Tasked with being the host of Youth Apprenticeship Week, AFL-CIO needed a comprehensive plan to bring together Philadelphia unions, community partners, and students. Their goal was to bring awareness to the opportunities that unions offer throughout the city by promoting and capturing those moments to share across multiple platforms.

Approach:

We began by creating a 30-day social media campaign with our target audience being students in Philadelphia between the ages of 16 and 21. As an incentive to bring people out, we designed and had 50 t-shirts printed through a local union printshop that also highlighted each of the unions that were partnering. Finally, we captured photo and video content on-site the day of the event and created a recap video for partners to distribute to their networks.

SERVICES AND SOLUTIONS FOR AFL-CIO

Our Process

Initial Campaign Setup

Our project began with creating a 30-day media kit to allow unions and community partners to promote easily. The social media posts and videos we created were broken up into “pre-event”, “during event” and “post-event”.

T-Shirt Design
& Printing

As an incentive to get people to the event and register, we created t-shirts and offered to give them to the first 50 registrants. The t-shirt was designed by our youth and given a style that both gets people excited about the event while shedding light on the organizations that would be in attendance. We worked with a local union printshop for the fulfillment of these shirts.

Event Content Capture

During the event, our youth was all hands on deck. From taking photos of union tables to interviewing attendees, we had all angles of content covered that day. Our goal was to give APL-CIO a recap video along with enough content for community partners to share and use in their promotional materials for future events. In the end, we produced over 250 pieces of content for this event.
